Trevi Fountain photoshoot, before the ticket gates open
Since February 2026 the area by the water has a €2 ticket from 9am. Before that it’s free and almost empty. We meet you at Trevi around seven, when you can stand right at the basin, and move on before the crowds arrive.

What changed in 2026
Trevi Fountain tickets and hours
Since 2 February 2026, visitors who are not Rome residents pay €2 to go down to the area right by the water. Looking at the fountain from the piazza stays free. For a photoshoot, that mostly changes when we meet.
Checked on 27 September 2026 against Romewise and Romeing. Rules change, so we check again the week of your shoot. Full guide: Trevi Fountain tickets, hours and rules.

Down by the water
Right at the basin, with Oceanus and the cascade behind you. The shot everyone wants, and free only outside paid hours.
Up on the piazza
The whole façade in the frame, free at any time. Wider, calmer, and it works even when the basin is full.
The streets around it
The narrow lanes that lead into the square. We walk in with you for a few frames before the fountain appears. The Spanish Steps are ten minutes away on foot.

Timing and light
Photographing the Trevi Fountain: timing, light and the €2 ticket

The fountain through the day
Before 9:00 (11:30 on Mondays and Fridays) the area by the water is free and nearly empty: on 13 May we started at 7:13 with the basin almost to ourselves. From 9:00 to 22:00 it costs €2, and by mid-morning there are rows of visitors in front of the basin. After 22:00 it is free again and the fountain is lit. Details in our Trevi tickets guide.
Grey mornings work here
The pale travertine and the turquoise water stay bright even under cloud. Our March session at Trevi was on an overcast morning, and the soft light was kinder to faces than hard sun. See that session.
What fits around it
The Pantheon and the Spanish Steps are each about ten minutes away on foot, so Trevi, the Pantheon and Piazza Navona fit comfortably into one hour. With two hours we add the Spanish Steps or cross to ancient Rome.
Trevi at night
The fountain is floodlit after dark and free again after 22:00. It is busier than at dawn, so for photos without a crowd the first hours after sunrise are still the better choice. Our sunrise and sunset times has the hour for your month.
